This month’s “Caught Being Awesome” award goes to a Whitman Staff member that has made an impact on probably every student, staff member and family in the school – whether you know it or not! Give a big cheer to the friendly face that greets everyone as they enter our school, our administrative secretary…Ms. Janice Runner!

Never appreciated enough, we are so thankful that she keeps us afloat. Janice’s peers think she is amazing and notice her hard work. She knows everything about the school, and when she doesn’t, she finds out. She is beyond helpful and helps the school run. Thank you for all you do, Janice!

December 2024: Ms. Dunnett

Dever Dunnett

That’s right, you heard Art? December’s “Caught Being Awesome award winner is Whitman’s own ceramics and visual arts teacher, Ms. Dunnett!

Ms. Dunnett is known by her peers and parents of students alike for being “kind and gracious with students“. She is always smiling and saying hi to students in the hallways, and everyone is happy to see her. She tells students how much she loves them and encourages all students to do their best. She prioritizes relationships with families to help them feel connected.

This special educator is patient and helps distracted and energetic kids find skills to stay focused. She makes art super fun and encourages everyone to try their best even if they aren’t super confident in their art skills.

October 2024 Mr. McDermott!

Mr. McDermott

October’s “Caught Being Awesome recognized an individual whose effort to connect with students across the board does not go unnoticed. Their ability to make a warm and welcoming atmosphere at Whitman is appreciated by students, teachers and parents alike. They set a great example for “a relationship first and caring about the whole student body.” This staff member knows students by name, greets them and checks in about something specific TO THEM!

As a health and Physical Education teacher, this teacher truly cares about students well being both physically and emotionally. They foster positive interactions between students creating an inclusive community minded school environment.

Cheers to Mr. McDermott, our October Caught Being Awesome winner!
