What is WEB?

We are very excited that your child will be attending Whitman Middle School, and we look forward to seeing them at our 6th Grade Orientation on the first day of school, Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 8:55 a.m. Our WEB Program will help get your 6th grader off to a great start! 

What is WEB? WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) is a nationwide program designed to welcome and support 6th graders by connecting them with WEB Leaders, who are positive, responsible, hand-selected 8th graders. Your student’s WEB Leaders will help them feel more comfortable as well as help them achieve success in their first year of middle school. Doesn’t that sound great? It is!  

Before the first day of school, your child will receive phone call from their WEB Leader personally inviting them to orientation day and giving the details of where to be and what time. The Leaders can also answer any questions they may have. (Please contact Mr. Shorb if they have not received a phone call by August 28).  

Your 6th grader will have a chance to meet their WEB Leaders at our 6th Grade and New Student Welcome Night at Whitman on Thursday, August 27 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. We will have our ASB and WEB Leaders on hand to help give tours and answer questions.

On the first day of school (Orientation), your student is encouraged not to bring backpacks, purses or other like items except for a lunch bag on the first day of school (as the day is quite active and they won’t have a locker yet). Because the day is active, please make sure that your student wears comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement. Orientation Day is a student-only function, so we encourage you to let your child attend on their own. We look forward to a great first day of school and our WEB Leaders can’t wait to connect with your student.

Throughout the year, we will hold several opportunities for students to check in with their WEB Leaders and have 6th grade only activities to continue building a positive Whitman community.

6th Grade WEB Picnic: Sept. 16

We’re going on a picnic! Wednesday, September 16, 2026 get ready to have lunch with your WEB Leaders and the rest of the 6th grade class during both lunches and all of 3rd period. We will bring our lunch to Soundview Field for a picnic and then we’ll play some games and check in on how the year is going so far. Be sure to dress for possible weather and wear something you can move in!

Parents, no permission slip is needed, however if you would like to opt your child out of the picnic, you can return the “Picnic Form” to the office or your student’s 3rd period teacher. Can’t wait to see you there!

Information for 8th Grade WEB Leaders

Attention 8th Grade WEB Leaders! Please check your emails for information on the Summer training days: 

  • Monday, August 24: Day 1 – Meet in the Whitman Cafeteria by/before 9 a.m. and finish at 2:30 p.m. (lunch provided).
  • Tuesday, August 25: Day 2 – Meet at 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (lunch provided).
  • Wednesday, August 26: Day 3 – Meet at 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (lunch provided)
    • T-Shirt & Partner day!
  • Thursday, August 27: Day 4 Meet at 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. (snack only)
    • Meet in Mr. Shorb’s Drama classroom #205 for 6th Grade welcome night *wear your t-shirt!!
  • First Day of School, September 2: Meet in the gym at 8 a.m. for Orientation, then immediately after school in Room 11 for a quick check in.
