Volunteers Needed: Staff Lunchroom Remodel

Hello Wildcat Families,

We are excited to announce the remodel work dates for our staff lunchroom! Thanks to a grant from GESA Credit Union supporting Local Heroes, we can create a restful and professional space for our staff. We are fortunate to have support from Whitman families, with project manager Doug Kisker and Whitman family contractors Emilee Birrell and August Bergdahl at Crescent Builds providing expertise. We’ve also had support from NAC Architecture Amy Jain who drew our plans and the work plan.

Staff Lounge with 2 tables.

While we’ve have this wonderful support from families and companies, we now need volunteers to help build the kitchen and paint the room. If you have experience with assembly of IKEA furniture, kitchen demolition, and/or painting, we would love your help on the following days:

  • June 24-26: Assemble cabinet boxes and drawers. We need about 4 volunteers. Prep office bathrooms for painting.
  • Monday, July 15: Demolition of the current kitchen and drywall installation. We need 4-6 volunteers throughout the day and help with paint prep.
  • Wednesday, July 17: We need 2-3 volunteers and help with paint prep.
  • Thursday, July 18: Prime and paint the staff lunchroom and office bathrooms. We need 5-6 painters. (If you can paint on a different work day this week, please contact whitmanptsapresident@gmail.com to discuss timing, especially for the office bathroom painting.)

Please sign-up today! We appreciate your help in getting this room ready for our Whitman staff! Thank you. Contact Jan at whitmanptsapresident@gmail.com if you have additional questions.

This work is being supported by a Local Heroes Grant to the Whitman PTSA by the GESA Credit Union.

Whitman MS Hallway with Lockers

Our Hall Crew Team could use more help during lunches! Please contact whitmanptsahallcrew@gmail.com to learn more from our leads: Myckal, Kelsey, and Jodi! It’s a great way to see what’s happening in the halls and be a presence in our school! We need YOU to join the Whitman Hall Crew volunteers at lunchtime. What is it? Come to the school during lunchtime once or twice a month and be a friendly face in the hall or at the ball cart. Lunchtime is from 11:03 a.m. – 12:36 p.m. on M, T, Th and Fridays and from 10:40 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Wednesdays. The commitment is once or twice a month on the same day for the entire year.

If interested, please email whitmanptsahallcrew@gmail.com. In the email indicate if you’d like to be once or twice a month and what day of the week works for you.

Together we can be a positive and caring presence to all kids at Whitman! Thank you for helping to make this school year great for all the kids at Whitman!

Volunteers to Partner with Teachers and Staff

Whitman is looking for 1-2 family volunteers to join the Creative Advantage Grant Committee along with Ms. Dunnett, Ms. Gunn, and Mr. Thomas. The Creative Advantage Grant Committee serves as a bridge to bring the arts into core classes and light the fire of learning. This committee works to connect community arts partners with the teachers at Whitmans so all students can have access to the arts, even if they do not have it as an elective as well as solidify the connections between what students are hearing/learning and how it connects to their life in a fresh and meaningful way. The committee is looking for a family partner who has a passion for art in our school. If you are interested or have questions, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Becky: whitmanptsavolunteer@gmail.com.

Our Whitman MS Black, Brown, and Ethnic Student Union (BBESU) club is being developed by Ms. Debra Deiderichs. We would love to have a family partner with Ms. Debra to help her run this program. If you are interested in this club becoming active, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Becky: whitmanptsavolunteer@gmail.com.
