    Athletics Overview

    Whitman Athletic Vision:
To provide opportunities for as many student athletes as possible to learn cooperation skills through a team atmosphere, develop leadership skills as they learn how to positively represent their school and community, balance the importance of academic excellence with athletics, create a transitional bridge between middle school and high school, and understand how to compete with a strong sense of good sportsmanship.

All students need an updated physical on file with the school nurse in order to tryout or turn out for a sport.

After they are on a team, players need a completed Concussion Form, Parent/Guardian Release Form, and Progress Report in order to participate in games. Players also need to maintain a 2.0 average GPA, with no more than one class having a grade below a C (or equivalent). Players cannot be under any disciplinary action on game day. Additional Citizenship or Sportsmanship rules established by the coach must also be met.

Progress Reports need to be turned in by the end of the day Thursday and game rosters will be issued to the coaches on Friday. No changes will be allowed after that time. A player must participate in at least 75% of regular season games to be eligible for playoff participation.

This year all sporting competitions will take place on Saturdays. Practices will vary among the sports, but will usually occur right after school.

Playoffs have returned this year for all sports. The format will be a one-day tournament on a Saturday.
