    Winter Break pic

As we are heading towards winter break, please keep in mind that for some of our students, school breaks can be very stressful. Additionally, even in the “best” of families, things can get overwhelming. Winter Activities list are just a few. Remind students that feelings of stress during breaks are not usual and that is helps to figure out ways a head of time to cope with changes.

Also, please review the list of free/low cost things to do, stress that one can have fun and a relaxing time without it having to cost money. In our neighborhood:

    • Swanson’s nursery has the Reindeer Festival and offers great selfie photograph opportunities in the decorated yurt. Students can stroll around and listen to music all day…

    • The community centers will be opened for sports and other fun activities. Bitterlake community center will host a BBQ for teens, day to make blankets for the homeless, chili cook off, etc.

    • Seattle libraries are offering a variety of free activities: homework help, free movies, hot cocoa afternoons, and the Broadview library will host the KID’S CAFÉ, a place where teens can grab a afternoon meal. The libraries also offer free passes to Seattle Museums.

    • How about taking a free boat trip around Lake Union or a free carriage ride in downtown Seattle?

Also, stress that is "OK" just to “chill”, take a walk, listen to music, call a friend or read a book.
