    The Whitman Music Program is a comprehensive, award-winning program that is designed to prepare students to succeed in high school level ensembles. The program has two jazz bands, three concert bands, two string orchestras, and an after school drumline. Roughly one-third of Whitman’s population is an a musical ensemble. Whitman’s top ensembles consistently receive “Superior” ratings and “Best Overall” distinctions at regional festivals and competitions.

     Joel Orsen - Band  an Orchestra Director

    Joel Orsen studied music education at the University of Washington. This is his ninth year at Whitman! When not teaching, Mr. Orsen likes to write music, exercise, and spend time with his wife and cat.  Mr. Orsen is very active performing with professional and volunteer music groups, including the Seattle Sounders Sound Wave Marching Band and the University of Washington Alumni Band. If you see Mr. Orsen at a game come say Hi! Mr. Orsen is a recipient of the Golden Acorn for Outstanding Educator from the Whitman PTSA in 2015.
